I have been a fan of hard-boiled/noir crime fiction since the mid 1990's.  After reading a number of contemporary authors back then, including Michael Connelly and Walter Mosely, I soon realized there were a great number of classic authors in the genre that I never had the pleasure of reading.  I soon discovered the likes of Raymond Chandler, Dashiell Hammett, Chester Himes and James Cain.  After a few years, I realized I wanted to own original editions of the books I enjoyed so much.  Thus began my hard-boiled and noir book collection.

The list below is a partial catalog of my personal collection.  The majority of my collection consists of first trade editions. The remaining books are paperback originals, photoplay editions, advanced reading copies and a few hardcover reprints. Authors in my collection include Raymond Chandler, Chester Himes, Lionel White, Hal Ellson, Charles Willeford, Joe Gores, Lawrence Block, Daniel Woodrell and numerous others. I also have a fair number of mystery reference works and author biographies, which are listed at the very bottom.

My books have been acquired through various sources including used book stores, thrift stores, Ebay, ABE and Alibris. It is a great thrill to walk into a thrift store to find a hidden gem worth many times more than what you paid. With some persistance and leg work, I have been able to build a collection of crime fiction which includes a number of scarce and valuable books, without spending an exorbitant amount of money.

This catalog is a work in progress. I hope to have my entire collection on this site eventually. If you have any questions or comments, please email me at akaff123@yahoo.com
